The Side by Side music camp invites you to the festival concert
Side by Side Music Camp is an international music camp for young orchestral musicians and choir singers. The Festival Concert at Scandinavium marks the grand finale of the music camp, offering symphonic music, magnificent choral pieces, and powerful arrangements.
The Side by Side music camp is one of the year’s absolute highlights for young musicians from all over the world. For a few beautiful summer days, they gather to play and sing together, side by side with professional musicians. The camp promotes classical music while building bridges between people, cultures, and continents.
During Festival Concert, over 2 000 choir singers and orchestral musicians of mixed ages perform together with the entire Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Scandinavium arena. They form massive choirs and orchestras in various combinations for a powerful musical manifestation, all under the direction of the camp’s conductors: Ron Davis Alvarez, Emilia Hoving, Marjolein Vermeeren, Birgitta Mannerström-Molin, and Ida Rosén Hamrå.
A grand musical experience
This year’s program includes Alice Tegnér’s beloved Ute blåser sommarvind for choir and orchestra, classical pieces by Mozart, Bernstein, and Brahms, as well as epic film music in Vangelis’ Conquest of Paradise. The traditional sea shanty Wellerman will also make a welcome return, alongside Zara Larsson’s Symphony.
The concert will also feature the world premiere of Två hjärtan slår samma slag, composed by Tormod Tvete Vik. The main melody was originally written for the performance Bubblor in 2023, but has now been re-arranged for the massive Side by Side orchestra, with a beautiful new text by the Symphony Orchestra’s own Mats Kjelbye.
